BUCK CREEK HOPS

Buck Creek Hops, located in Johnson County, Iowa, began commercial production in 2015 and started with 25,000 hops plants. On site, Buck Creek Hops has state-of-the-art equipment designed specifically for the purpose of properly retaining all essential hop oils. This allows them to deliver the best product for brewers.

 

Buck Creek Hops currently has thirteen varieties of hops. The varieties were carefully chosen to allow a range in choice of Iowa’s freshest selection. Fresh hops are available each harvest season, as well as pelleted and packaged hops.

Feature 1

BCH Citrus - 2019 - Blend

A stand-alone proprietary blend of Iowa-grown hops with citrus, tropical fruit, and dank characteristics. This blend has a distinctive lime rind characteristic and provides dank and tropical fruit aromatics when used as a whirlpool or dry hop addition.

Centennial – 2020

An aroma-type cultivar that can also be used for bittering. It has an aroma profile of floral and citrus. It is often said to be a super-cascade and was released in 1990 by Washington State University.

Triple Pearl - 2020          

 

An aroma-type cultivar released by USDA-ARS in 2013. It is often described as an amped-up version of German Perle with notes of melon, orange, and citrus.

US Saaz – 2020

When grown in Iowa, this variety, unlike its Czechoslovakian counterpart, imparts less spice and more herbal and floral notes. Checking in at a slightly higher Alpha of 7%, she’s perfect for lagers, Bitters, gold/cream ales and even big stouts or porters.

Cascade - 2018  

       

A dual-purpose cultivar with floral and citrus flavors. Developed by the USDA-ARA hop breeding program and released for cultivation in 1972 by Oregon State University.

Chinook - 2018         

 

Chinook is a dual purpose cultivar developed by the USDA breeding program and released in 1985. Due to our rich soils and different climate, chinook grown in Iowa is much more tropical fruit-forward when compared with chinook of the PNW. The spice and pine characteristics typically associated with chinook are much less pronounced when grown in Iowa while tropical fruit and grapefruit aromas take center stage, making it a truly unique aroma addition.

Nugget - 2018

Nugget was released from the USDA breeding program in 1983. It has a floral, earthy and resinous aroma. Although originally developed as a bittering hop, nugget has found it’s place as a dual-purpose variety among today’s craft brewers.

Tahoma - 2018          

 

Tahoma was released by Washington State University in 2013. Bred from glacier, tahoma is said to have predominantly citrus aroma, much like cascade. While citrus is predominant in this hop, our Iowa soils and climate bring forward earthy and woody undertones, making it a truly unique aroma addition.
